The Centaur Cycle Co Ltd manufactured top quality bicycles and tricycles with innovative features, and their machines were renowned worldwide.
This Online Museum celebrates the early days of safety bicycles when companies such as Centaur led the way.
Centaur had strong connections with Humber, and Humber bought the company after Centaur Cycle Co Ltd ceased trading in 1909. The Centaur badge was used by Humber until the 1920s.
This Centaur Museum comprises a small collection illustrating the main models between 1894 and 1911: a Solid-tyre Safety Bicycle, Featherweight Cross Frame, Resilient with sprung forks and a Diamond Frame. A pair of Centaur Roller Skates and a later Humber-built Centaur complete the range. You can read the history of the company and get a feel for the cycle industry in its early days. Enjoy!
